Summer is in full swing, and what could be a more pleasant way to accompany the soaring temperatures than immersion in the water? 

If you’re looking to try something more adventurous than a front crawl or starfish float, you might be interested in checking out some of these activities that you can enjoy both above and below the waves .   

Snorkeling

Let’s start with the most relaxing proposal for all ages. Snorkelling is an accessible way to glimpse into the fascinating underwater world that surrounds the Spanish coastline . Top snorkel spots include the rocky beaches of the Costa Brava , such as the Medes Islands archipelago, which are one of the only places where you might spot some coral. The rocky bays and sandy beaches of the Balearic Islands are also spectacular, and the wavy underwater meadows of Posidonia sea grass which is especially abundant in Formentera are surely one of the wonders of the natural world. 

Scuba-diving

For a deeper immersion in the aquatic realms, basic scuba preparation classes are available in specialised centres around the coast. Once you’ve got to grips with the main manoeuvres, an instructor will accompany you on an unforgettable underwater adventure . The abovementioned snorkel locations are also scuba-diving hotspots . The Costa del Sol is another popular stretch of sea. Encountering larger fish in the confluence with the Atlantic water, and even spotting sunken shipwrecks is not uncommon. 

Kite-Surf

We’re venturing into extreme-sport territory , so a certain physical stamina and learning curve is to be expected! Experience with paragliding, wind-surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding will stand you in good stead, as the objective is to surf the waves whilst pulled by a large power-kite that harnesses the wind. It is supposedly easier to learn than surfing , so if you feel called to give this decidedly cool sport a try, go for it and good luck! 

Hydrofly Jet-pack

And now for some sheer high-adrenaline fun . The water-propelled jet-pack lets you dive in and out of the sea like a cross between a turbo-dolphin and Marvel superhero. Jet-pack wearers are propelled up to nine metres up into the sky before hovering, trying out tricks and spinning down with a splash. Managing the equipment is relatively straightforward, so you can focus on the decidedly surreal experiences of suspended height, weightlessness and freedom of movement.
