Superyacht design trends in 2024

Ceilings full of texture, lots of screens in unexpected places, a showcase of staircases, diaphanous spaces, and the foredeck as the king of the superyacht are some of the design trends that we are expecting this year 2024 to bring us.

Another year is ending and with it a new wave of promising design trends that are about to consolidate during 2024 . To bring you the most updated information regarding new trends , we have been consulting different superyacht designers , such as Alejandro Crespo , from Daroca Design .

The foredeck is the key to the superyacht

During 2023 we have seen conceptions shift around the foredeck space . Designers are now experimenting with sheltered , more flexible configurations , which were previously considered a part of the great outdoors, like the sun pads or helicopter landing pads. The latest model of different designers shows new features such as an “all-season terrace” , providing a concealed space to relax with a Jacuzzi, fixed sun pads and a settee, or a sheltered foredeck that gives a comforting touch to the yacht especially when exploring arctic climates.

We are also having some changes in the materials of the deck . In the words of Alejandro Crespo , ” Teak, once the go-to material, is encountering challenges. Companies like Bolidt present synthetic materials that have the potential to redefine exterior design . It’s not merely a solution; it’s a paradigm shift . Envision a material supporting sustainability while offering unparalleled customization. It’s akin to an artist’s canvas, empowering designers to craft bespoke flooring patterns for each yacht—a floor that narrates a unique story with every step.

Ceilings full of texture

Interior designers often compete with the everchanging scenery of a superyacht. To increase the visual interest inside, a little experimentation is necessary when the sunlit waters lie just beyond the window. As a result, the textured ceiling is one of the more creative trends that have emerged.

Screens and more screens

In a superyacht, where amenities include everything from a beauty salon to an underwater viewing lounge, a humble TV can feel like an afterthought. This year, there was a fresh surge of screens in unexpected places that designers have impressed with in the past. Some of them feature a swimming pool complete with a high-luminosity cinema screen and surround-sound system, while others underwent an incredible rebuild that saw a 10-metre video corridor installed .

Some other screen-savvy superyachts have televisions built into the sky lounge bar. If there is something sure about the superyacht trends coming for 2024, is that screens will still have a special place on board.

Creative staircases

Designers have always used superyacht staircases as a subtle way to showcase their skills. With some inventive engineering, this year, they were put in the spotlight of superyacht design. We can see the results on the staircases of MY Alchemy. The owners wanted to eliminate the traditional yacht layout, selecting no lobby and an open central staircase that would connect the main and upper deck saloons , expecting this change to be innovative for the industry, as it changes the quality of light and the feeling aboard.

Diaphanous spaces

Following the owner’s demands, designers have always treasured the versatility of indoor-outdoor design, which allows for sun, shade, sea breeze, ocean views and climate control all at once.

The new trends have been trying to blur this thin line between interior and outdoor, but next year, we will see broken boundaries with oversized sliding glass doors and diaphanous spaces that can be completely opened.

Alejandro Crespo states that ” Designers are extending open spaces beyond the confines of the boat, creating a seamless connection with the sea. It’s about more than just a view; it’s about curating a lifestyle experience where clients can immerse themselves in the soothing embrace of the sea, finding relaxation and joy in the exterior as much as in the interior.

More than just aesthetics

According to Superyacht designer Alejandro Crespo , the design changes will be all about freedom. Clients now wield the authority to determine how their yacht’s floor will look and feel . Whether drawing inspiration from museums, infused with hotel opulence, or grounded in the raw beauty of nature – the possibilities are as expansive as the sea itself . As we sail into the future of yacht design in 2024 , the seas of change bring forth a captivating blend of luxury , sustainability, and individuality. From expanded open spaces to innovative synthetic deck materials, Alejandro states that each aspect reflects a commitment to redefine yachting.
