The last night of the year is celebrated around the world, although this time the party-loving city of Barcelona will be limited by nightlife and social restrictions. Yes, it’s time to say farewell to 2021 and a hopeful ‘hola!’ to 2022.
If you and your crew are moored in the Catalan capital, you will already be familiar with Evolution’s yacht services and yacht assistance. As you will know, precautionary restrictions were re-introduced in Catalonia and around Spain on the 24 th December due to the pandemic. Barcelona’s official New Year’s Eve street party and fireworks in Plaça Espanya has unfortunately been cancelled, as have the parties in bars and nightclubs such as Razzmatazz and Poble Espanyol. All venues will close early, as there is now a curfew between 1am and 6am . Gathering have been limited to ten people (except households), and bars and restaurants can only fill to half their indoor capacity.
As ever, both venues and public will be making the most of the possibilities that remain accessible within these restrictions. Many restaurants remain open for smaller groups, scheduling the festive dinner to start earlier and finish just after midnight for an “express” New Year’s Eve experience . Hotels are offering special packages for an evening meal and overnight accommodation, which is proving to be a popular option for locals who are looking to do something different. And course, many more people will be hosting or attending small gatherings at home.
A tradition not to miss, wherever you are, includes the eating of twelve grapes – one with each chime of the midnight bells, for good luck. This is invariably followed by a toast with a glass of sparkling cava to better times ahead.
