Get to know this exclusive art gallery in a small island at the front of port of Mahon – the biggest natural harbour in the Mediterranean.
Hauser & Wirth Menorca is a cultural centre that combines art, education, and the conservation of the astonishing natural setting of Illa del Rei , which is an island located in Mahon harbour . This art centre presents a wide exhibition programme with ambitious news commissions by gallery artists across all media.

Hauser & Wirth repurposed the existing 18 th century buildings of a naval hospital to create this amazing art centre opened in 2021, that has welcomed more than 58.000 visitors during its first season.
In Hauser & Wirth you can enjoy an exhibition space with eight galleries and an outdoor sculpture trail where you can see works by Eduardo Chillida, Joan Miró, Louise Bourgeois and Franz West . The gallery has education and sustainability at its core, and they run a learning programme that engages both the local community and visitors with contemporary art. They use screenings, talks and workshops.
The Education Lab of the cultural centre, which was inaugurated by Mark Bradford, leading a residency with students from the local arts high school Escola d’Art de Menorca, and this year, they launched a residency initiative for two post-graduate students.
In the outside, it has an astonishing garden designed by Piet Oudolf, which runs alongside the gallery buildings, incorporating native perennials and plants that go well with the Mediterranean climate. There also is an on-site restaurant , called Cantina, that offers seasonal and local produce with special focus on seafood and sharing.

With the aim of protecting the unique natural environment of its location, Hauser & Wirth Menorca partners with the Menorca Preservation Fund. The environmental sustainability measures of the art gallery include a rainwater collection protocol, the creation of a water plant so water can be reused for ground irrigation, and energy efficient climate control for the buildings.
Illa del Rei is about a 15min ride away from Mahon port by a shuttle boat offered by the gallery every hour. Is not possible to berth your yacht or your tender in this island , but you can leave it in anchorage and disembark with a small tender .
