For yacht crew, it may be required when joining, leaving, or cruising on board a private yacht in U.S. waters, depending on the itinerary and individual circumstances.

What documents should I bring to the interview?
You may be asked to bring a passport photo if the digital photo uploaded with your DS-160 is not accepted. The photo should measure 5 cm x 5 cm, and there is usually a photo booth available at the Embassy. We will confirm the full list of documents you need to bring closer to your appointment date.
What is the quickest way to get my passport back after the interview?
Same-day visa issuance is not normally possible. In most cases, your passport must be processed and returned after the interview. The quickest option is usually to remain in the country of your interview and collect your passport once it is ready, where this service is available.
Do I have to stay in the city of my interview?
Not necessarily. You may leave after your interview and return to the yacht or to your home if you need your passport for travel. Please inform the consular officer that you cannot leave your passport at the Embassy.
Once you reach your destination, your passport must be sent back to the Embassy by express courier, such as DHL, TNT, or FedEx. We do not recommend using a national postal service, as courier services provide tracking and proof of delivery.
Please let us know your travel plans in advance, as passport return options must usually be arranged before the interview and may not be changed afterwards.
How can I check the status of my visa?
You can check your application status through CEAC by selecting “Nonimmigrant Visa” and entering the required details. Your case may show different status updates during the process, including administrative processing, refused, approved, or issued.
Once your visa is issued, your passport will be sent to the registered delivery address. Delivery times may vary depending on the Embassy, courier service, and destination.
