Top trends in superyachting for 2023

We expect to see many new things in the industry during the coming year. Yachting events are back, companies are going global and new design and construction trends include alternative sustainable propulsion systems.

After a year defined by the final COVID restrictions, the war in Ukraine and the important spin towards a sustainable and carbon neutral yachting , Evolution brings you the top trends we are anticipating for the year 2023 .

The return of the yachting events

Yachting events are back big time. The MYBA Charter Show, Monaco Yacht Show, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, The Gulf Superyacht Summit, The Superyacht Forum… the yachting industry is returning to normal , clients and colleagues are meeting person and arranging new exhibitions , showing new products and services , and even preparing new events .

Companies spread their wings

Following the many incidents and restrictions incurred by COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, many companies have decided to expand their service areas . The increasing globalization has been evident at the various events of 2022 – more and more companies are placing special emphasis on the possibility of sending products or providing services worldwide .

The digitalization of the sector will increase

More and more new products appearing on the market are highly digitalized . From galley operations to propulsion systems we are seeing more electronification , more remote operation and further interconnection of systems

New design tendencies

New trends in design are coming on strong. Shipyards are hungry to break out into new territory and innovation is taking space over the more traditional concepts . Just adding length is not something that we are going to see during this year. The lines between the inside and the outside are being blurred as different spaces of the vessels are being re-interpreted . If you check the latest yacht designs, you will be able to see more glass and free-standing furniture and the increase of open interior spaces ensuring stunning views throughout the vessel.

Propulsion systems and sustainability

The change towards a carbon neutral future is moving at a fast pace.  Electric, hydrogen, hybrid and methanol powered propulsion systems are one example of alternative mechanical systems appearing on the scene . In 5-10 years the engine room of superyachts will look very different , as hull design and fuel efficiency will become more predominant than they are today by the use of natural fabrics and sustainable products . Reducing the carbon footprint of vessels is fortunately a major trend and many shipyards have announced development and renovation of their facilities to become greener and to achieve greater energy autonomy.
