Night of the museums in Barcelona

Barcelona by night – from a more cultural perspective!

On Saturday, May 14th , around 75 museums and galleries across the city will open their doors free of charge until 1am , much later than any normal closing time, to celebrate learning along with many other museums and galleries over the world.


If you are an art lover and you will be berthed in Barcelona , you shouldn´t miss this exciting event.


What do you need to do to see the museums for free?


Many venues will have queues outside their entrance doors for people to enter for free, however, some other require a prior reservation through their website.

Here are some of our recommendations.



PICASSO MUSEUM


Picasso Museum, which is located in the heart of Barcelona’s old town , offers free admission with a guided tour answering all questions that visitors might have about the artist.


For this museum, tickets must be reserved on Picasso Museum’s website .



CAMP NOU


Barcelona Football Club is located next to the Camp Nou stadium and offers a tour that includes a visit to the stands of the famous stadium. You can learn about the history of the club and see the historic awards that the team has won over the course of more than a century.

PARK GÜELL


The Güell Park is open for free for its visitors for the night of the 14 th of May. Visitors will be able to see one of Gaudi’s most emblematic works and get a one-hour tour of the guard house.

MACBA


Barcelona’s contemporary art museum, MACBA, which is situated in the city centre opens its permanent collection for free together with a set of temporary exhibitions featuring universal senses, conceptual art, and textiles as a manner of code.


To visit the museum during the Night of the Museums ticket must be reserved on MACBA’s website .

 

MNAC


The MNAC, Catalonias National Art Museum , is one of the finest architectural works in the world , with a collection of art within to match. You can visit it for free during the Night of the Museums and enjoy its permanent collection of Civil War art, post-war and avant-garde pieces.


It’s recommended to book a ticket in advance on the MNAC website .



CHOCOLATE MUSEUM


One of Barcelona’s most entertaining museums , the chocolate museum, shows the past and the present evolution – from its discovery to its development and its current reign as one of the world’s favourite treats!


To visit this museum, you will need to queue, no pre-reservation is possible, so we recommend you go early – it’s a very popular stop during the event.



CCCB


The Contemporary Culture Centre of Barcelona always shares with the audience some of the most thought-provoking displays . At the moment there is an exhibit on Francesc Tosquelles, a famous Catalan psychiatrist that fought in the Civil War.


Additionally, the CCCB host a two-hour poetry slam .

CAIXA FORUM


The Caixa Forum always has a v ariety of interesting and relevant themes on display and there seems to always be something new to discover on every visit! Currently on exhibit is a surrealist show performed by René Magritte .

JOAN MIRO FOUNDATION


Located up in the hill of Montjuïc the Joan Miró Foundation boasts many original works of the impressionist artist as well as a section of temporary exhibitions.

MUSIC MUSEUM


Barcelona Music Museum displays different kind of instruments, some of them rare pieces from the past . As well as the collection, Marc Vilanova will perform in an experimental saxophone concert to add an extra dimension to your visit.


The show starts at 20:30 and you need to get tickets in advance on the  Music Museum website .



PALAU GÜELL


Antoni Gaudi’s Palau Güell is one of Barcelona’s best kept secrets . An astonishing modernist palace that you can visit during the “secret face of Palau Güell” tour at the Night of the Museums.


To visit this tour, tickets must be reserved in advance from the 8 th of May in Palau Güel’s website . Only a limited amount will be available.
