One of the most widely recognised of these alternatives is the Norwegian seafarer medical certificate, issued by doctors approved by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA). It’s accepted as an ENG1 equivalent and is often the fastest route to getting certified while based in Spain, where genuine ENG1-issuing clinics are scarce.

Given the limited availability of ENG1 doctors outside the UK, an equivalent seafarer medical certificate is often the more practical route while you’re in Spain.
